The North Pacific Region including the Nicoya Peninsula is the hottest and driest zone of Costa Rica. Many beautiful beaches are located here as well as huge cattle ranches. The Palo Verde, Santa Rosa and Rincon de la Vieja National Parks protect large areas of tropical dry forests where trees drop their leaves during the dry season and start flowering. This phenomenon favors animal observation during those months as they can be spotted easier.
The volcanoes in this area – Orosi, Rincón de la Vieja, Miravalles and Tenorio – form part of the Guanacaste Mountain Range.
Rincon de la Vieja has as main attraction an imposing volcano that gives name to the town and in turn captivates each of its visitors with the amount of activities available for you to enjoy to the fullest. Nothing compares to naturalistic walks through the forest, finding huge waterfalls on the way that will delight your eyes and body, as you can swim in the pools of cold water and hot springs within the trails. It is also possible to take walks to the fumaroles of the volcano, with local guides who are experts in wildlife, ready to give you the natural history of this place. This place is perfect for those looking for immersion in nature but also for those looking to have fun and challenge their skills. For them we propose the zip line tour through a canyon, a tour of river tubing that will fill you with adrenaline. Those horseback rides that refresh your soul and volcanic mud sessions that will rejuvenate you more than your skin. Without forgetting the incredible direct thermal waters of the volcano to end those days full of physical activity.
The Nicoya Peninsula can be reached from the north via Liberia, or by crossing the bridge crossing the Tempisque River. From Puntarenas, daily ferries cross to the southern beaches of Playa Tambor and Montezuma.
The choice of Pacific beaches is large; here you find a collection of the prettiest beaches. The vegetation is not as lush as in the Caribbean (especially during the dry months), however this area remains relatively dry with exception of the rainy months of September and October.
The beaches of the North Pacific of Costa Rica are known for their scenic beauty, tropical climate, but above all for the variety of activities available for you to enjoy to the fullest.
Our favorites are the water tours, from the catamaran tour or sunset sail tour that allows you to appreciate some incredible landscapes and also explore the depths with the snorkel tour in Tamarindo. If you are looking for something more exciting you can not miss the ocean kayak tour, the waves will give you enough excitement to make it an unforgettable adventure. Another of the unique experiences offered by these beaches is sportfishing; for those who enjoy this sport, you can venture offshore with specialist guides and give free rein to fishing for the most exotic species. And do not forget to take some surf lessons so you can master those waves like an expert.
The adventure would not be complete without doing the longest zip line tour of Central America, a cable that also allows you the best views of the Pacific coast. To this we can add horseback riding on the beach, climbing wall, visit to animal refuges and ATV Tours by picturesque villages.
The North Pacific has everything you are looking for to have a good time.
